Another Nature
Junya Ishigami Born in 1974, a Japanese cutting-edge architect, graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, worked in SANAA for four years, and established his own office in 2004. Ishigami also has few completed works, but his first independent work, the Kanagawa Institute of Technology (KAIT Workshop), won the 61st Japan Architectural Association Award (architectural design category), which is also the highest honor in the Japanese architectural community. His Architecture as Air collaboration with structural engineer Jun Jun Sato won the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Biennale.
Shi Shangjun's architectural projects are often rooted in the natural context-landscapes, clouds, and forests, are common themes in his architecture. What is novel is that in the architectural space on the stone, nature is not just a metaphor, nor is it just a building background. His building itself is like a primitive and strange natural phenomenon. He is accustomed to breaking the boundaries between the internal space and the external environment, or in other words, his design approach is to treat the two as a whole. "I want to think about architecture with a free mind." Shi Shangchun also said, "My architectural concept is to go beyond the stereotype of what a building should be, and see the building itself as a fluid, Broad and ingenious.
